A New Resident
Size: 27” w x 32” h
Quilt made for: High Fiber Diet theme ‘A Different View’ (Columbia Fiber Arts)
A home that once gave residents hope and dreams for a future, now has a different view. Run down and overgrown, a new resident is satisfied with just having a roof overhead.

The Hare
Size: 21” w x 26” h
Quilt made for: Thread Tale’s Book Challenge - The Kitchen Front by Jenniefer Ryan
Cooking in England during World War Two was based on what one could find to put in the pot. The rationing of food made local wild animals a prime target and hares were known to replace chickens in recipes.
Thank you to Frances Crickmore for allowing me to use her wonderful photography for inspiration.
Techniques: Design painted on fabric and then thread accented

The Beauty of Past Architecture
Size: 37” w x 26” h
Quilt made for: The Storytellers theme - Architecture
Art Quilt Group - Architecture
If photos could talk I am sure this one would have stories to tell. I am not sure if the building is an old schoolhouse or church but the bareness of the landscape tells a story about the perseverance of human nature! Thank you to Namajamphotograpy for permission to use the photo for inspiration.

Gone with the Wind by Maragret Mitchell & Art Quilt Group challenge: Neutrals
I decided to make this quilt after researching the history of the Civil War. I never realized the importance of the flags on the battlefield. The original Confederate flag is on the bottom left of the quilt. The similarities between the army's flags caused confusion for the Southern troops when they had to rally. A new flag was designed during the war that was visually different from the Northern flag. The maps on the borders are actual battle maps from the Civil War drawn on the fabric. The hats, sabers and guns are what the soldiers would have used in the Civil War. The name of this quilt represents the southern gentleman, he had to know how to ride and shoot and he often hunted with hounds. The inside panel is an original design and hand painted.
Techniques: Painted

Vermeer’s Delft Painted by Judith
Size: 45” w x 35” h
Quilt made for: The Storytellers theme - Cities & Thread Tales book - The Art Forger by BA Shapiro
This book deals with the forgery of famous paintings. I wanted to see if I could paint a section of Vermeer’s Delft on fabric. I loved seeing this ‘city’ through Vermeer's eyes and trying to replicate it. His attention to detail was amazing. Notice the lightning rods on the buildings.
Techniques: Drawn on fabric and painted, quilted on domestic machine.
Awards: Second Place - QuiltFest NW 2019

Fractured Rose Garden
Size: 43” w x 44” h
Quilt made for: Art Quilt Group challenge - Fractured Block
Five people made a small 17” x 17” rose block from the same photograph. Each block was then cut into five pieces. Each person received a section from all five blocks to put together. I decided to design a new rose around each piece and create a rose garden. I wanted to see if I could duplicate the techniques used by the other quilters. If you look closely you can see the cut piece that each rose was designed around.
Contributors of the rose pieces: Louise Deatherage, Geri Kromminga, Sally LeRoy, and Claudia Jamison.
Techniques: paint and appliqué, thread painted areas of each rose to blend where the ‘piece’ was joined
Awards: Juried into - International Quilt Festival, Coming up Roses 2014
A Painted Christmas
Size: 51” w x 51” h
Quilt made for: Connecting Threads - to combine decorative painting and quilting
This quilt was made while I worked at Connecting Threads. I did quilting and decorative painting for them and wanted to combine the two techniques. The center stars are painted with acrylic paint with fabric medium added. Not traditional Christmas colors, but it was a Christmas line of fabric. The painting patterns are by Karen Wisner.
Techniques: I designed the quilt around the stars and the amount of fabric I had.
Awards: Third Place - Clark County Quilters 2017
